My Students

Motivate my students and give them the opportunity to learn and connect with technology in the classroom.

Our urban school is in a high poverty area and serves many low income families and students who are English language learners.

The majority of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and 85% of them qualify for free or reduced price school lunch. My energetic, diverse class represent a plethora of cultures and linguistic backgrounds. My students are Latino, Arabic, Burmese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, African American, Filipino, Japanese, Caucasian, and Samoan.

My Project

The iPad, protective case, screen protector, headphones and headphone splitter will give my students limitless learning possibilities. To maximize their educational potentials, I envision the iPad being used in a center group activity, where a group of four to five students can learn from a specific phonics activity, such as learning letter sounds, practicing phonemic awareness skills like blending and segmenting sounds, and learning rhyming words. For literacy time, students can listen to a story that matches their current reading level. For math, we are learning about counting, number sense, addition and subtraction. For individual students who have specific learning challenges, the iPad can aid with fine motor skills with games and applications that incorporate multiple learning modalities.

This technological learning tool gives opportunities to maximize learning individually, in pairs, or in small groups.

Students will learn phonics, math, and science, and they will be able to listen to or read stories within their reading levels. Students who need extra guidance will develop fine motor skills. The iPad will help with learning letters for students who need multiple modalities to learn successfully. Imagine the joys of learning from technology in a Kindergarten classroom!
