My Project

I have 20 curious, bright, energetic, and hilarious 4 and 5 year-old students in the special education inclusion program that I teach. Some of my students have been identified with a disability, and some are typically-developing. Consequently, there is a wide range of academic and social abilities in my class and everybody is learning at his or her individual level. My school serves almost exclusively low-income families and serves children in grades pre-k through eighth.

My challenge as a teacher of an inclusion program is to meet the needs of the wide range of abilities that I have in my class.

I provide my students' first school experience and set the tone for the rest of their educational careers. I work hard to help each child meet his/her individual potential.

I am fortunate to teach a curriculum called Tools of the Mind that focuses on academic skills and the development of executive functioning through a play-based classroom environment. The play structure I am seeking funding for will enhance our classroom theme on restaurants by providing a high-quality and engaging drive through center where my students can stimulate their imaginations, learn cooperation and social skills, and practice self-regulation through playing and acting out roles and play scenarios.
