This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in a low socio-economic and often rough area of Los Angeles. Although they do not live in the best of neighborhoods, I strive to give them the best education for a brighter future.

My students are 48 energetic, inquisitive, smart 5-6 year old students from diverse backgrounds in the dual language program.

They consist of 50% English Language Learners with a Latino background and 50% English only students with Latino, African American, & White backgrounds. I love that my students are diverse in their backgrounds and in their Spanish abilities. They are able to learn from each other as they begin their journey into biliteracy and bilingualism.

My Project

We have started a new dual language program at our school, but alas have very few materials in the target language, Spanish. I am requesting a weekly magazine subscription to Scholastics, Let's Find Out magazine in Spanish for my 48 kindergarteners.

Students will learn about various topics across the curriculum, all while also improving their Spanish skills.

The magazines will be a valuable resource for developing my students' vocabulary and overall content knowledge in Spanish. These magazines will also reinforce information that is taught during science, social studies, health, and other subjects. All the visuals will engage my students and also aid them in understanding Spanish a bit better. They will love having a tangible magazine to read and take home to share with their families.
