Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a cohort of 57 students each day. Each learner comes eager to learn two languages (Spanish and English) each day. They are apart of our Dual Language Program implemented in my School. This program meets and supports the cultural and linguistic needs of my students.About 90% of my class qualify for free or reduce lunch. About 25% of my student's first language is English, 50% of my student's first language is Spanish and the other 25% speak another language at home. They are apart of a cohort that shares the journey to become not only bilingual but also bi-literate and bi-cultural.

We need the necessary seating and materials to learn in small groups!

Due to the large size of my classes and the different literacy needs of each student, it becomes an essential need to teach in a small group setting each day. This project will allow students to have a stool to sit on and provide a portable easel to efficiently learn in a small group setting within the classroom. Right now students are getting into small groups by dragging their own chairs across the classroom. This will allow me to have a designated small group area already set up within the classroom. Students will no longer have to worry about not having a place to sit. Their task will just be to meet the teacher in a small group area and be ready to learn!
