Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are 2nd graders with a variety of origins. They love to learn about each other's country and culture, about the world, different places, people, cultures, languages... They are so open-minded and curious about learning. They are all English learners and some of them are newcomers. They have very different Math and literacy levels (both in Spanish and in English), and in order to be able to reach all of them, I need to give them visual and manipulative materials to keep them engaged and motivated. I would love them to have the opportunity to keep being curious about the world and learning Geography with the Leapfrog Magic Adventures Globe during our project "My Place in the World". In Math, they are learning about addition and subtraction and about place value, so they need some hands-on materials such as the Cuisenaire Rods and the Base-10 blocks magnetics that will help them understand these concepts. I will also be able to create a lot of visuals for all the subjects by using the Thermal Laminator and the Paper Trimmer.

My students learn much better when they have materials they can manipulate and explore with.

By receiving these materials, I will be able to give my students the quality instruction and resources they need to achieve the 2nd grade learning goals and keep them engaged and excited about learning.

The products that I have selected will help my students by making it possible to adjust the teaching instruction to the needs of all the students. We will be able to use the materials for whole-group instruction, for small groups and learning centers or for personalized individual instruction. I will also be able to differentiate and create materials for all the different Math and literacy levels (Spanish and English).
