We have big plans at our school to makeover the library into a space where our students can comfortably collaborate. Our school and classrooms are focused on engaging students in higher level lines of questioning and critical thinking skills. Therefore, we regularly encourage students to develop, interpret, and analyze content through interactive writing, academic protocols, and collaborative activities.
Herman Intermediate serves 5-8th grade students from a variety of backgrounds who are eager to learn through a rich academic environment filled with opportunities to collaborate with their classmates.
Partner work, reading, and discussions routinely filter into our classroom. They enjoy the opportunity to create detailed visuals for classroom projects, work collaboratively with peers, dive into higher order thinking questions, and so much more. They also thrive when using technology as it puts them in a position to collaborate on documents and presentations simultaneously with one another.
Therefore, we plan to put together a library makeover that includes flexible seating with moveable tables to allow for large or small groups. It will have tables to plug in Chromebooks or computers for students to do their work.
My Project
Providing an updated library will allow my students to use the space to collaborate during the lunch and break hours of the school day. My students need Modular Seating Set, a Mobile Magnetic Markerboard, and two bean bag chairs. Students utilize the library after-school to collaborate with one another on various projects and get homework assistance. Our library is the hub of the school and it provides my students a place to focus on academics in a comfortable environment. My students will use these new resources to help them in their academics and improve their motivation to use this space for academic purposes. Let's face it, if they have a comfortable space to collaborate and learn, they are much more successful.
