My Students

A typical day in my classroom involves instruments on a daily basis.

My students ask me during the day before I have them for class, " Mrs. Foor, are we going to play instruments today?".

I love hearing that question and I always tell them to wait and see. My students don't just learn by reading in books about instruments, they experience them by playing.

My Project

For this project I am requesting twelve Hickory General Orchestra Drumsticks and a World Music Drumming classroom kit. Part of having my students learn about instruments is also learning that music can be made with things around the house such as buckets. I have my students perform rhythms on five gallon orange buckets and you would think they were the best instrument I have in my classroom. These students love playing on the buckets but I don't have enough drum sticks for all the students to perform with. My students get an opportunity to perform in drum circles with drums and other world instruments. We will play a variety of world rhythms with the instruments in the World Instrument kit. We will talk about the instruments' origins and how the instrument is used. I will really love the opportunity to do a unit on world drumming and that is why I am asking for the World Drumming kit.

Donations to my project will improve my classroom because it will equip my students with the drumsticks and instruments we really need.

If we can have more drum sticks then more students can perform on the bucket drums. When we do a unit on World Drumming my students will be so excited and willing to learn with the new instruments.
