This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 25 first grade students from diverse backgrounds.
Our wonderful school is located in sunny Southern California.
My students range from gifted and talented to below grade level. We are proud to be a Nationally Recognized School of Excellence and have won many prestigious awards. Since we are not a Title I School, funding extra projects is very difficult. We need a few science books, live insects, seeds, and animal books to teach students how to be compassionate and care for live plants and animals.
My Project
I am requesting ladybugs, ants and butterfly kits for students to learn about metamorphosis and life cycles. Students will also make insects using the requested art supplies. They will grow flowers and beans to learn about plant life cycles. Students will observe and write reports about our live insects. They will keep a science journal and write about each stage of metamorphosis and describe the basic needs of plants and animals. My class will help feed and take care of our interesting
pets.
My first graders will also read books about bunnies, puppies, and kittens to learn about the responsibility of pet care. Scholastic News is a magazine specifically written for first grade students. Animals, pets, plants, and ecosystems are frequent topics covered in this kid-friendly magazine. Students will get to take their weekly magazine home and read the articles with their families for extra reading practice. They will learn about the life cycle of our live butterflies, ladybugs, ants and seeds as they care for our class pets and seedlings. Thank you for this incredible opportunity!
