This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Have you ever tried to engage a group of developmentally delayed three-year-olds for 30-minutes straight while sitting on oversized chairs at a wobbly table? I can tell you first hand that it is not an easy task. My goal for this project is to make a cozy and inviting space for my pre-k students.

Please consider helping me create a student-centered and dynamic learning space with comfortable floor seating for my young learners.

Currently, my classroom has a cold, hard, cement floor, which cannot be used for floor activities. With these soft foam tiles and area rug I will be able to incorporate age-appropriate activities into my speech therapy for some of my youngest kiddos.

Sitting on the floor while reading a book, completing a puzzle, stacking blocks, or playing with cars is much more engaging than requiring young students to stay seated in large chairs that are not designed for them. With an age-appropriate and comfortable setting my students will be more engaged and happy so that they can make greater progress towards their individual speech/language goals.

As a speech-language pathologist I have the pleasure of working with some of the sweetest, loving students who each require highly differentiated learning plans due to their special education needs. The majority of my caseload is made up of pre-k students. Having a comfortable floor space to work with my students will be another tool in the toolbox to help them learn and succeed.
