This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a Title I school where children of all economic levels are learning at high levels. We are readers, writers, historians, mathematicians, scientists, and problem solvers. My students are developing the skills needed to work, live, and play in the future.
Despite our differences in backgrounds, abilities, and interests, my students have developed caring and respectful relationships with one another.
You will often hear children chatting, laughing, and offering words of encouragement to each other. Students are encouraged to wonder, think critically, solve problems, ask questions, and seek answers.
My Project
My students love being outside playing with their peers. Some kids like to play tag while others enjoy swinging. Most of the time you will find a large group playing one basketball or another group trying to play kickball with the one ball our class has. We are in need of a variety of balls so students can play kickball, soccer, Four-Square, basketball, and a variety of student made-up games. Students also need jump ropes for bone-strengthening exercise.
By donating to this project, you are helping my students stay active outside the classroom and more attentive inside our classroom.
New exercise guidelines from the federal government encourages schools to keep students active throughout the day. While our classroom takes several movement break each day, my students crave more time outside playing. These kids love group games such as kickball and 4 square. My students are developing social skills, learning conflict resolution, and improving communication skills while playing student organized games.
Research indicates that being active during recess allows students to be more attentive and productive in class. Studies suggest that people who exercise have better memories and thinking. I hope that active bodies will lead to more active minds and engaged learners.
