Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students' full potential and their overall development have been limited by the lack of gym materials. Help us promote good exercising habits and health benefits through gym.
My wonderful students are kids diagnosed with multiple disabilities including, Autism, Down Syndrome, MR, Emotionally Disturb.
Not only do they face the challenge of developing cognitively but physically as well. We belong to a district 75, special education school in New York City where we share our gym and playgrounds with 2 other school, making yet another challenge to embrace their skills. Gym takes place in the hallways, cafeteria or others unusual locations. Regardless, my students are always in good spirit and up to enjoying what they do, in this case gym class.
My Project
Inspiring my students to participate in my gym class is one of my everyday goals. I would like to acquire the balance beams in order to continue promoting my students well being. Many of my students lack the exposure and they lack the physical coordination even to walk. These balance beams will help them develop their balance, spatial awareness, muscular endurance and strength, following direction. The balance beams will be implemented in one to one activities, obstacle courses, field day events, assessment of their physical development, etc.
Why is this project so important, well physical development and being active is a huge part of our life.
Promoting children to continue to learn and strive for their best is my mission. Obesity continues to be a negative factor for our nation but exercising can really decrease this factor. With the right material, equipment my students will be inspired to follow the path of being healthier.
