This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My fourth graders had no idea when they left school on a Thursday afternoon, a field trip day of all days, that they would not return to campus this school year. Therefore, when they left school I did not have a chance to send home materials and supplies that they might need in the future. The same has been true for me as well. Therefore, we have been doing the best that we can working on Zearn, an online math program, Google Classroom and Zoom. To say that our school year has changed is an understatement, but we are making it work as best we can. Most of my geometry lessons are now done with handmade pictures created with sharpies on notecards. My students then use their Chromebooks to work online to fill in any gaps they may have. We are making it work, but it is difficult.

My Project

Distance learning is very different than typical in class learning. It been made even more difficult by the fact that I am trying to teach geometry to students using the app Zoom. Because geometry involves using pictures, rulers and protractors, I am constantly having to draw precise images on index cards and computer paper. It is time consuming and difficult. Thus I am hoping to take these images, laminate them and organize them according to topic. Therefore they can be used again to review these same concepts as well as again next year.
