Help me give my students multicultural and assorted skin tone pencils, crayons and other art supplies for more realistic self-portrait art projects.

My Students

My school is a low-income campus. Students are still new to having full-time art, so this is the perfect time to start integrating technology into our art projects!

Our students are creative, thoughtful, curious, and love to experiment!

Their eyes light up at even the mention of new or unusual art supplies, and my goal is to harness this curiosity and convert it into engaging and relevant lessons by introducing new methods of creating art.

Art is an important way for my students to express themselves, and my goal is to incorporate new technology and ideas into their repertoire that will inspire!

My Project

Our current supplies only represent a small range of skin tones. Acquiring a larger range of skin tones will help our school population better represent themselves in self-portrait projects. This is extremely important for the empowerment and confidence of our student artists.

If a student artist cannot find an appropriate skin tone art supply, it can affect their self-esteem and their confidence in the art project.

By having these options, it will open up a new world of self-portraiture for our budding artists without the troubles of having the correct skin tone range. Supplying these options will shift the focus back to the artwork and the learning instead of the pitfalls of a limited range of color options.

The construction paper will be used for both portrait collage and Pop-up portraits. The colored pencils and crayons in multicultural/skin tone ranges will add to our currently limited range in colors of both of these mediums.
