Lets Improve Balance, Motor Skills, and Create!

Help me give my students two Step2 wagons which will maximize outdoor play and help with transition from class to class, a sensory sox for tactile and deep pressure seeker kids, and building blocks to develop creativity.

My Students

As a teacher in a low income/ high poverty school, my students with special needs are faced with challenges in and out of school. Most of them qualify for free breakfast and lunch. We have a diverse population of refugees.

Despite their physical and social challenges, I believe that they will always be an important part of society.

I am looking at providing them with simple and meaningful learning activities that will help them later on in life.

Each of my students has an individual disability with unique needs. Our school is located in an area of diversity and our students typically come from lower income families and have difficult obstacles to overcome at home. As staff members of this special education classroom, we try our best to nurture our students and fill any voids that they lack in their home lives.

My Project

My students join their same age peers during Specials and at times, because of their difficulty in walking, my staff are having a difficult time encouraging them to move around. With the wagon, my students feel that they are only playing. They feel excited and are willing to go anywhere in school.

With these materials, the wagon, body sox, and building blocks, children with special needs experience better balance, improved motor skills, creativity, and body awareness.

They also show improvement in behavior, self-confidence, and build friendships.

I have seen how these materials have helped them with self-regulation and finally having our own in school will benefit many children in our school as well.
