Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This is my first year teaching fifth grade and I have a wonderfully exciting plan to show my students the United States and some of what it offers! Over the weeks, students will plan a year-long road trip across every state in the contiguous United States (Hawaii and Alaska will be separate). They will need to create an itinerary, determine a route, use the scale on paper maps (no GPS!), measure the routes, estimate the times and costs to travel, find national parks and monuments, read weather reports, study state characteristics and specialties, write in a journal, take virtual field trips, the works!

In discovering America, students will use all aspects of education including math, reading, writing, geography, science, and history.

In addition, students will be practicing the skills deemed necessary to be productive and successful citizens such as logic, precision, problem-solving, tenacity, persistence, strategizing, justifying, reasoning, and so many more.

I can't possibly relate to you how excited I am about this project!! It encompasses everything I love about teaching and I hope will inspire students to look outside their comfort zones and find new passions and interests!
