My Students

I teach some of the best 7th and 8th graders in the country! My students are some of the most curious souls I've ever met, and we have a question board for all the awesome questions they ask that I don't know the answer to right away. They want to know everything all at once and sometimes I just need to point them in the right direction and to the right resources and off they go discovering and learning about the world around them.

I'm so impressed with their dedication to not only becoming good scientists, but becoming good people too.

I make sure to not only compliment and praise them for their good scores on quizzes and assignments, but also for kindness toward their fellow peers and general respect for the things and people around them.

I'm mostly trying to get some basic classroom sets of supplies so that EVERY student gets the chance to have a hands-on experience with demonstrations, labs and other involved classwork.

My Project

These materials will make a difference in my students' learning because with more supplies to the classroom, students don't need to share one ruler among three of them. I'm asking for some rulers, meter sticks, stopwatches and 3 more scales. We will use the rulers, meter sticks, stopwatches and scales extensively in the Physics Unit of both 7th and 8th grade curriculum. I've asked for calculators to help each student be able to access a simple calculator in order to help them divide, add, multiply and subtract with various numbers we'll be measuring in our Metrics Unit. The scissors I've asked for will help the entire class be able to create and design models of the material we're learning - such as atoms, earth layers and cells.

Each student craves to work with the tools and materials, this project will help those students explore what they're learning by being able to do it themselves.

So many of my students learn by doing it themselves and having more materials in the classroom helps them truly grasp the concepts they're learning.
