After reading books on how to Pay it Forward and Help Mother Earth, we will plant and grow Seed Needs sunflowers. Students will learn about Earth day, growing a plant from seed, and get to watch each phase unfold. They will observe as it changes from seed to plant. We will learn about recycling, compost, and waste reduction. Using the peat pot containers will model responsible choices in using decomposing materials instead of plastics.
Making connections with hands on activities will help my students understand the importance of taking care of our Earth and reducing their carbon footprint.
The experience of growing their own flower will increase the likelihood of them participating in other Earth Day activities. Taking pride in caring for a living thing will build character and understanding.
My goal is to teach my students to take care of our Earth, reduce, reuse, recycle, build knowledge about the world around them, and give them a sense of pride. My students are eager to learn and ready to bloom, I need to give them all that I can before they move on to 4th grade.
