This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
How can anyone survive in today's world without knowing how to read? Many students with autism struggle with reading, and it is my utmost goal to help my students to develop the literacy skills.
I teach students with autism in second through fourth grades.
We are in a self-contained school with students with autism ranging from kindergarten to 22. We depend a lot on the use of visuals in the classroom to help the children be successful in their day. The students I serve have varying levels of skills and need.
My Project
My main goal for this project is for my students to better their reading fluency and word recognition, making them more successful in reading. Reading fluency and word recognition are both important content standard objectives.
Having the opportunity to listen to great books being read to them would model what good reading sounds like, improve their fluency, literacy skills, and confidence while they are following along with their favorite books. My students need a listening center so they may listen to books on tape without disturbing each other.
My students with autism struggle with reading fluency and word recognition and could highly benefit from the identified items.
Having these materials for the next school year will help ensure better reading then and for years to come. Please help my students in their journey of becoming functional readers!
