Help me give my students headphones in order to use their Chrome books. Many of the programs we use need the students to listen carefully in order to answer a question. This is why headphones are essential!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My inquisitive students come from a low socioeconomic area where access to hands-on STEM materials in their homes is very limited. My school also has limited funding for technology. Consequently, my students do not have access to computers on a daily basis.
My students all receive free lunch, and some come from foster homes.
My classroom is one of the only places where their thirst for exploring is met. Therefore, I strive to foster an environment where all their questions have an answer or create new questions to explore.
My second graders are a highly inquisitive bunch of thoughtful thinkers. Having materials in my classroom is essential to cultivating a rich learning environment. I love to see that glint in their eye after they figure out a solution.
My Project
The headphones I am requesting would help my students be able to use our programs on a daily basis. Many of these programs have students listen to a question or story. For example, one literacy program asks the students to listen and sort the words into boxes by vowel sounds. If they do not have headphones, then they cannot complete the activity during class time.
Having durable headphones allows for daily phonemic practice for students who oftentimes do not have an English speaking parent who can help them.
They can use the headphones and listen to the program pronounce unfamiliar words.
