I just revamped my curriculum with tons of exciting activities for this upcoming school year with tons of labs and activities, but there is one little problem. I don't have many of the supplies needed to provide these experiences for my students. This project has an eclectic group of items in it, but all serve a purpose in a lab, demonstration, or activity we will be doing. For example, the food coloring will be used to show convection currents in water when heated. The balloons will be used in a lab to demonstrate Newton's 3rd Law of Motion. The different sized sports balls will help demonstrate that objects of different masses will hit the ground if dropped from the same height. With the empty bottles we will make density bottles which show how less dense substances will rise up.
The students' understanding of the concepts will be greater because they are seeing the science done right before their own eyes.
They get to be the scientists forming conclusions rather than reading conclusions other scientists have already made. These materials are reusable and will be used by many students in the years to come.
