This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are an amazing group of kids who happen to receive Special Education Services. I want to create a place for them to learn, grow, and feel comfortable.
Teaching in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with multiple challenges.
The school is located in the midst of a large city and my students all come from diverse backgrounds and bring with them a variety of experiences.
Each of my students spends about an hour a day in the resource room. They receive math, reading, and social interventions. They are a great group of kids!
My Project
My students need flexible seating that will allow them to stay focused in the resource room. Many times, my students require constant redirection, lose focus, and become uncomfortable when seated at the table. These chairs will allow active learners to move around while they are are learning. They will help my students stay on task for longer periods of time and limit distractions.
Being in resource, our daily time is limited and having a way to redirect disruptive and distractive behaviors will be beneficial to all of the students I serve.
The bean bags will also provide my students comfort and create more places for them to work. I believe these seating options with create a more comfortable learning environment for my students.
