This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are rebuilding athletes after an injury, surgery, or after the season. We need each kid healthy to be competitive. We cannot perform well with athletes sitting on the sideline injured. We cannot afford expensive doctor's visits or physical therapy. Our athletes have a hard time getting a parent to come to a daytime game, pick them up from school on time or drive them to an awesome doctor's office that treats them for very little cost across town. We must do our best to provide holistic care to each athlete.
Ninety percent of our schools are lower-income Hispanic families.
Many live in multi-family homes where extended families share one small house. We are in the highest bracket for free and reduced-price lunches.
Athletes come back each year to check-in and update us on their lives. Sometimes we continue to provide medical care for former athletes as we have become their trusted source.
My students want to get healthy, improve and grow. Sometimes neither the student nor parents, know how to do it. Our entire athletics program is focusing on building character into our future leaders.
My Project
Our basketball team is in full swing right now. Soccer has just started. Baseball and Softball are gearing up. Working with each of these team sports we help prevent injuries and rehabilitate the athletes when they do.
With a rugged reliable video source, my athletes can capture video of themselves while participating in strengthening exercises to adjust their body mechanics.
Similar to an athlete watching film after a game to see where they can improve, they could now watch the film of their rehab techniques.
We have an athlete working on jumping and landing on both feet instead of the injured ankle being favored. With the action sports camera, we can set it up and not worry about it getting bumped or mishandled during the sessions.
We do not have a lot of athletes available and we need to do as much injury risk reduction for our team sports athletes as possible.
