My Students
My students are the best part of the area they live in. They are imaginative and love to read and be read to. Many of my student deal with challenges at home that would affect adults. Some only eat at school, have no one to monitor them at home, or are caretakers for their younger siblings.
I want to make sure that my students have the as many engaging opportunities to learn as their peers.
The worries that plague adults should not be the same worries for children. My goal as their teacher is for my students to forget about the worries of home and be fully engaged in learning throughout the school day.
My Project
My students currently need more practice with letter recognition, sounds, and reading. While I pull small group and teach from the morning to the end of the day, my students still need extra support to ensure they are on grade level by the end of the year.
Reading on grade level is critical to success in first grade.
Reading is the foundation for every other subject. I have chosen reading and literacy centers that help students use critical thinking skills. In addition, our class is working on number sense and fluency. I have chosen some engaging and colorful math centers on making ten, recognizing shapes, and additional first grade skills to continue to build on skills attained in kindergarten.
