My students need Lego Basic Duplo blocks, Easy Simple Machines for Kindergarten STEM by Lego, and Lego Duplo Creative Box.
This project expired on December 22, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
The students in my kindergarten classroom, in the far south-east side of Chicago, are amazing. Listening to their conversations while they are participating in an exploration lesson proves to me, time and time again, that active learning is taking place. And their favorite way to learn? You guessed it--hands-on! Some of my students, because of their living situations, have never had the opportunity to feel the joy and awe of watching something they sowed sprout or felt the responsibility of tending to living things.
Young children are natural scientists!
Kindergarten is very much a transition age in which children are learning to be independent. They are ready to explore their environment and are buzzing with ideas on how the world works.
Using Lego Duplo blocks, I will be able to design small, individualized lessons that allow students to solve simple problems using Science, Technology, Engineering and science---STEM!
There is very little that can capture a 5 year old's imagination like a pile of Lego's!
The addition of the Simple Machine Duplo set will add another layer of exploring and inquiry into technology.
Giving Kindergarten children challenges, while working in groups, to solve challenges such as building a structure that can withhold gusts of air coming from a fan on high, will create authentic experiences and introduce students to real world challenges that engineers face.
