Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a low income school with the majority of our students being English learners. Most of our families are hardworking migrant workers who love their children, but have major challenges with language barriers and poverty. My students are great! They are so eager to learn and appreciate their education. Our school has one of the best attendance rates in our large district which is because they love school. I feel like they give me so much more than I can give them. I am very blessed to be able to have them in my life.

These children really have a hunger for learning and want to succeed.

They add so much to my life and I feel really excited to have them in 2nd grade! We created such a bond throughout the year as a class and I am so excited to watch them grow in their learning and friendships this year!

My Project

Lego Bricks are not only fun, but also a great learning tool! The majority of my students are English Learners. Lego Bricks not only build structures, but also language. This is an amazing opportunity for my students to collaborate with their peers to use new vocabulary, plan, build and write about their ideas.

With these tools my students would be able to learn hands on, such as engineering a model of a volcano after they have read about them during our weekly theme.

They can also use them for mapping and graphing. The rainbow paper would be a great stress relief.
