This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located a few miles from the California-Mexico border with 100% of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunches. We are a class of first and second-grade students who are anxious and happy to learn. With the curriculum becoming more rigorous, especially in reading and math, we want to be able to experience the learning firsthand and be focused. Our class is an active bunch of students who are highly engaged and ready to dive into learning.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in my students' learning because they truly developed a love and interest for coding. With the addition of these LEGO robotics kits, the students will be able to continue to enhance their coding and engineering skills by building these robots that they can control using an iPad app.
Problem-solving is an essential 21st-century skill and coding teaches them just that.
Tinkering around with something, trial and error is all part of the learning process. The students are becoming comfortable with working through obstacles in their learning and not giving up. We have been learning how a growth mindset is very important as a student. They have truly been proactive about their learning and I know these robotics kits will truly spark their curiosity and interest as well as have them engage in teamwork.
