Let's Go Climbing: Therapeutic Recreation

My students need funding to provide admission and appropriate transportation to a local climbing wall.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Lindemann's classroom raised $258

This project is fully funded

My Students

My students come in each day with smiles on their faces, ready to take on the day! They are an incredible group of students with special needs who don't let their disabilities limit what they are able to do or what they are able to accomplish.

My students attend a large public school and receive their education in a self-contained classroom.

They include with their peers throughout the day and enjoy every opportunity to be social. They each have a job within the school that they are expected to complete daily and do so upon arrival. My students are very hard-working and maintain a busy schedule throughout the day that include working on academic and functional tasks. They require direct support from adults but work so hard to increase their independence. They each have their own, unique joyful attitude and are able to adapt well to their environment, despite any obstacles that are present.

My Project

My students have traveled to a local climbing wall for the past two years. They have gone above and beyond what is asked of them and succeeded at climbing the wall with necessary support! They not only enjoy the opportunity fully but increase their physical mobility, range of motion, and confidence during this amazing trip. The students have shown their peers, parents, teachers, and community members that they are capable of accomplishing amazing things, with the right resources and funding available to them. The funding earned will pay for a bus with the necessary accommodations to transport the class to and from the climbing wall and pay for the admission for each child, to help offset some of the costs for the increased staff involved in assisting my students up the climbing wall. My students will have the chance to access the climbing wall just like their peers and have the opportunity to feel successful, strong, and capable through this trip.

The donations to this project will allow my students something that is priceless: an opportunity to succeed.

This project has consistently been beneficial to my students physically, emotionally, and cognitively. It provides the students with sensory input while allowing them to strengthen their muscles, follow directions, and be more independent. It's benefits exceed what we are even able to measure.
