My Students
We are in the heart of Chinatown where almost 100% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunches. My students are full of energy and strive to learn something new every day. They are growing into enjoying activities from sports to strategic games to performing and visual arts.
The majority of our students come from families who do not speak English as a first language and are relied upon for translations.
They have big shoes to fill, but they also need to get the education themselves first.
My students yearn to increase their academic levels and demonstrate their ability every chance they have. They have the determination and want to expand their knowledge and prove that, "Yes, I made that happen!"
My Project
Since the pandemic, many of our students are losing the resources they need to learn. In my Cantonese Bilingual classroom, I would like my students to enjoy learning Chinese once again. Giving them bilingual books of high interest to read and dictionaries with translations will be beneficial to them. Showing them the games we once played as a child will help entice and motivate them to find out more about their own Chinese culture. With the use of TPT gift cards, I can provide students with resources that can help them learn and maintain their Chinese language. With these materials, it will give my students more opportunities to open up to reading and learning about themselves.
