My Students

I teach at a small, rural K-2 school in southwest Michigan. We are a Title I school, with many of our students receiving free lunch. We have a caring community that tries to do its best for our students.

Our school works hard to meet the needs of all our students, educationally and socially.

I have a class full of inquisitive students who are eager to learn. They are fascinated by science, love to create, and are excited to explore new books. I am guiding them to become independent learners and responsible citizens. I want to help them develop all of the life skills that they will need to do anything they desire in the future.

I strive to create a safe, welcoming classroom where my students can grow and learn.

My Project

At the beginning of the year, I give my students a pencil pouch with five sharpened, labeled pencils and an eraser in it. It is up to them to keep track of their pencils throughout the week and return them to me each Friday. This has been amazing at making sure my students have the supplies they need each day.

However, I would like my students to start being in charge of the weekly pencil sharpening.

For this, we need a new, dependable electric pencil sharpener. We also need a manual pencil sharpener for those times when a pencil needs to be sharpened during class. The Prismacolor sharpeners are for sharpening colored pencils, which cause regular pencil sharpeners to gunk up. We asked for two because students always seem to need to sharpen them at the same time and the line gets long.

The Instant Ink cards will make sure that we can print materials for the classroom and the pocket chart will keep track of them.
