Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students have made the choice to finish school. They were not successful at any of the traditional high schools in our district and now are focused on graduating. We have teen parents, foster children, and even students who have had run-ins with the law. (We even have a probation officer on site daily at our school.) But now they are all aiming for one common goal: walking the stage and receiving their diploma. It would be easy for many of my students to just give up and drop out. However, they don't. They persevere and inspire me to be a better teacher and better human being.
My Project
In our classroom we are without plumbing so that prohibits our use of paint and clay. Sharpies however, can be used in place of paints. We will be doing some pointillism using the sharpies rather then paint.
We will be exploring color theory seeing if the students can create secondary colors just using the primary ones and the pointillism technique.
Mindfullness is a focus in my district and to create images using pointillism will force them to focus on the momement one point at a time.
Following that, students will create a picture of their choice on a ceramic tile.
