Let's Get Teenagers Outside to Learn With Portable Seating!

Help me give my students camping chairs for the opportunity to learn outside rather than sitting in a desk for 90 minutes each class period.

My Project

At least 170 students each year will be served through my Portable Outdoor Classroom Seating Project. The purpose is to create an innovative outdoor learning environment that enhances student engagement, collaboration, and connection with nature through portable seating. This project would provide 24 lightweight, durable folding chairs to enable flexible outdoor learning experiences and support collaborative learning outside traditional classroom walls. Students benefit from learning in a variety of environments. Their quality of thinking- as well as their desire to learn- can be impacted by a simple change in environment. In addition, according to the Harvard Graduate School of Education "Research has shown that outdoor learning can have huge benefits on student mental health and academic performance." In addition, it is noted that "Students are often calmer and better able to focus when learning in nature, and teachers have reported better behavior and social interactions with fewer disciplinary issues." Portable outdoor seating is a simple, non-permanent means of ensuring that there is an option for convenient, accessible, outdoor learning.
