My students need to improve their skills in reading, writing, and math. Through the use of apps on the iPads, I would be able to set up ways for my kids to practice.
What an incredible group of kindergarteners! These kids are amazing. They are children who are IN LOVE with reading. They are so invested in their learning that they are devouring books daily. They want so much to learn more and more every day.
These kids know how to create a community of life long learners.
They want so much for themselves to grow as well as their class mates. They look forward to school, look forward to challenging themselves, and look forward to risk taking in the classroom. This group of kids reminds me why I love teaching.
My Project
I am looking to put iPads in my classroom! As a newer teacher, I am in the process of piecing my classroom together. You always want to find a blend of warm and inviting, mixed with new and exciting. I whole-heartedly believe that adding iPads to our classroom will give my classroom the edge it needs to bring my students to the next level. There is always talk of wanting to get kids away from technology. While I agree that kids spend too much time in front of a screen, it may not change.
Can you imagine what a difference it would make in a child's life if we gave them 10,000 books to choose from?
In one app alone, I can offer my student 10,000 books that are developmentally appropriate. There are hundreds of apps that I can have these kids use that will help them practice fluency in reading, writing, and in math. What I want to do is challenge that idea of "less" screen time and turn it into "productive" screen time. Taking screens away from kids is not authentic. Instead, I want to show them what productive use looks like. I want to show them what it looks like to use technology to learn as opposed to just scrolling to kill some time.
While this product is expensive, it could also be a huge bridge for kids who may not have access to this technology at home. I want them to be prepared for the world and ready to take on what is thrown at them. I want to teach them how to research, to navigate, and to problem solve. Through the use of this technology, I can do that, and in doing so, build foundation blocks in their education.
