Ms. Perez from Bronx NY is requesting lab equipment through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need hands on experiments to help them understand the cycle of diverse insects. Thus far we study mealworms and now I would love to study the live cycle of a butterfly.

I teach at a dual language charter school in the South Bronx. My scholars challenge themselves daily in all content areas in both English and Spanish. This year I have the privilege of working in an all girls school. The most important part of working in an all girls school is that I can teach these young ladies the potential and power in being a girl. The school culture places importance on academic achievement and the arts. The schools provides these young ladies with the opportunity to take dancing lessons in which they explore diverse genres of music and dance. Also, the young girls learn how to play the violin. Yes, the violin! The schools values the arts. They understand there is a strong connection between academic success to music and the arts.
These materials would give scholars the opportunity to experience hands on the process of the life cycle of a butterfly. Instead of reading about the diverse cycles. The scholars can experience first hand the process and document their findings in their science journal.
The school is an all girls school and I believe it is very important for girls to be encourage to participate more in science.
There is something magical about a girl that says she loves science and math because she had a great experience in elementary school.
Please give these girls a chance to experience exploratory earning first hand and discover the magic of science. Lets get scientific!
