My Students

The majority of my students cannot afford a calculator because they come from single parent or low-income families. I would love to provide them with one since with the new common core, the rigor is higher and the material is challenging. I love my students and I am committed to helping them succeed.

My students are middle school students, many from single parents and/or low-income families.

Our students have a strong desire to learn so they can have a better future than their parents. We are and AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) school, preparing students to become college and career ready.

My Project

With these scientific calculators, which students will use daily, they will be able to visualize the complexity of higher level math. For example, when dealing with exponents they could deeply understand about our national debt, distance among stars, planets, or anything that describes a large or small number.

Many schools have calculators available for the students but unfortunately our school is not one of them.

Learning to manipulate a scientific calculator at this age will help them understand middle school math and subsequently succeed in college and their chosen careers.
