My Project
I am currently teaching in a co-taught Sophomore English class. We have 30+ students in each class and anywhere from 35-65% of those students are on IEPs or have documented trouble reading. Our students are perfect examples of students who have many reasons not to like school and may have outside responsibilities but who come to school. We want to show them English can be both fun and engaging.
We want to create engaging and relevant reading assignments for our students to be motivated to give reading a chance!
We want to push them to see that books can be interesting and connect to them as teenagers. We need to get books that connect to them.
Looking at our cart, you can see that we have picked a range of books at all different levels (including graphic novels for our students who struggle with reading). We are getting enough to make small reading groups for them to engage with each other as they read. Please help us make reading relevant for resistant readers!
