This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach at an elementary school on the south side of Chicago. My students are resilient, strong, beautiful children. The majority of my students face financial hardships and do not always have the supplies they need. As a teacher, it is hard to personally supply all my students with the materials they need.
Despite their hardships, my students come to school ready and eager to learn.
I want my classroom to be a safe space where students can escape the outside world. Some of my students are struggling readers, but all of my students love to read, write, and learn! I want to provide my students and myself with the essential supplies to help them this school year.
In an effort to get my students and classroom ready for the new school year, I've decided to create a DonorsChoose.org project.
I want to give my students what they need to be successful and ready to learn.
My students need basic supplies such as dictionaries, paper, and classroom technology for the upcoming school year. Dictionaries will be useful in helping students increase their vocabulary and learning how to find words they do not know. My students also need materials like paper and markers to communicate their learning.
In my project, I have also added community supplies like hand sanitizer, Lysol wipes, and tissue. I want my students to learn in a clean environment. I have also added several Chromebooks so that students can work with technology in a small group station. At our school we do not have enough computers for students to use. By creating a station, I can ensure that my students have time to use applications like Microsoft Word/ Google Docs and online learning websites that can help them review.
I appreciate your support in helping me foster a great learning environment for my students. Thank you.
