Each year, our school participates in our annual school and district Elementary Battle-of-the-Books competition. In the past, I have been able to purchase copies of the ten book titles that are not in our collection with funding. However, this year I am unable, budget restraints are significantly affecting this purchase. Thus, I must seek another source to secure the books for next year's battle team.
The Battle of the Books is more than just a reading competition—it is an educational experience that encourages students to dig into the world of literature, explore diverse genres, and enhance their comprehension/notetaking skills.
Participants in battle of the books have the task of reading a selection of ten books chosen by a team of librarians. Since we often have multiple students and staff reading the same book at the same time, we need a quantity of 4-5 copies of each title.
Please help to equip my students with the materials they need to participate in this fantastic opportunity. Battle-of-the-Books is a great program that encourages reading, notetaking, comprehension, teamwork, community, and a love of learning. Through this endeavor, we aim to empower young minds, cultivate critical thinking skills, and instill a lifelong love for reading. After completion of the Battle of the Books competition, the ten books will remain in the library collection, for my other students reading enjoyment.
Each year my students are very enthusiastic, I am hopeful that giving them access to these books now will aid in building on their current excitement. This will allow them ample time to read, (re-read) the books and study their notes to prepare for Battle!
