This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My 8th grade students are always excited about the freedom, fun, and opportunities that high school will bring, but they rarely think about the added responsibilty and the strong student skills that are necessary to be successful. In my English class, I hope to facilitate skills and tools that are not only motivating and beneficial for student learning in my classroom, but will also prepare them for when they leave my class to go on to 9th grade. To that end, I would like the students to create an 8th Grade English Language Arts journal that includes a focus on high school readiness.
In the journal, students will complete daily activities such Word of the Day, reading responses, and content notes; the journal would also be used to set personal goals and practice student skills, such as, establishing routines, cultivating study habits, and responsible use of technology, as well as be a compendium for English Language Arts that students would use well beyond 8th grade!
The items I am requesting are a composition book for each student and a class set of colored pencils and pencil boxes for coloring coding notes and assignments. Thank you for your consideration!
