When the materials arrived, my students were immediately filled with excitement and curiosity. Students shared that the space feels comforting and motivating, and they quickly understood that it is a place to reset, reflect, and return to learning ready to be successful throughout their day. \r\n\r\nStudents now use this calming space during moments of frustration, anxiety, or feeling overwhelmed, as well as during planned regulation breaks. The weighted peas in a pod, weighted bear, and weighted butterfly are shared comfort tools that students take turns using to help calm their bodies and emotions. The visual timer helps students understand how long they have to use the space and supports smooth transitions back to learning. The treasure box plays an important role in their motivation and encouragement. Inside the treasure box are mini stuffed animal keychains, rubber duck toys, mochi squishies, and vinyl stickers. Students earn these items as positive reinforcement when they use coping strategies and return to class ready to learn. \r\n\r\nMy students now have a space that fosters ongoing social-emotional learning lessons focused on self-awareness, coping skills, and emotional regulation.
