My students need additional heart rate monitor straps so we can utilize our monitors with more classes each day as the straps need to be washed between uses.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school serves around 700 students, all of whom take part in our physical education program. Our students are bright, bubbly and in need of a challenge. We are looking to challenge our students by putting them in control of their health. We have recently been given heart rate monitors to use with our students, but do not have enough straps for our students. We currently have one classroom set of straps and they must be washed between uses, which limits the number of students who can use them each day.
We know our students will learn to take charge of their own health the more we use the heart rate monitors.
The students will learn to become more accountable for their health by recognizing which exercises and activities will put them in their target heart rate zones.
My Project
Adding heart rate monitor straps will allow our students to use the heart rate monitors more often. We will be able to maximize the number of times the monitors get used each day, thus allowing more students to focus on how exercise increases their heart rate. This technology tool will allow the students to monitor their heart rate during activity and recognize when they are exercising within their target heart rate zones for health enhancing levels.
Our heart rate monitor straps must be washed between uses, which is why we need more straps to maximize student use.
We want our students to make the connection between increased heart rate and increased health benefits. Using this tool will also enable our students to take learning into their own hands and to become more accountable for their fitness levels.
