My Students
My students come from many different backgrounds- some have grown up on the island, never having left it, and some have lived here for a short time.
My students are lifelong learners who strive to do their best each day.
They are actors, singers and dancers, they are readers and critical thinkers.
They work hard in the classroom each day, trying their best to stay focused and accomplish the many tasks on our schedules. Our class has many different backgrounds, academically, emotionally and economically.
There are plenty of students in my classroom who are not physically active and need to be or learn ways that they can be. They do not participate in after school sports, and have very little physical outlets.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in my student's learning and improve their school lives because they will allow my students to be active. Physical Education is critical and I feel like it is lacking these days.
Students need the opportunity not only to get out and play but to learn to work together with other students in team sports.
Our school does not have a PE teacher and it is in the teacher's hands to expose our students to PE lessons. This project will give me the resources needed to play different team sports with my students. My project will allow my students to be introduced and exposed to different types of sports including soccer, basketball and baseball. Students need to be able to work together on a team, communicate with each other and learn how to be good sports.
With the funding of this project, my classroom will receive equipment necessary to teach them how to play baseball (whiffle balls, bat, and bases). I will also have the materials needed to play basketball with them, and a scoop and ball toss set to help them improve their hand-eye coordination. I will also receive basketballs and cones to use during soccer and basketball.
