This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every minute counts! We start our day a 1/2 hour earlier since our day is jam packed with our core curriculum. Then we end the day with a PE session. At the end of they year, students will be able to play games, perform physical activities and be well coordinated. We need PE equipment.
My students are fabulous children who are mostly of lower socioeconomic status but that does not hinder their passion for learning nor their spirits.
About half of the children are English Language Learners. This year, I have the sweetest and most dearest children. Problems in the class range from a torn paper to a dull pencil. They are very truly innocent children. We are a STEM school which specializes in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. We have a small student population where there is only one class per grade level. Our students move from grade to grade in cohorts which allows for the families to really become united. Although we belong to a very large school district that is plagued with financial problems, mismanagement, and scandal, our school remains focused on the children. We manage with the resources we have and bypass the obstacles the district lays in front of us.
My Project
We will use balls to learn outdoor games where will incorporate running, jumping, catching, hand-eye coordination, and group cooperation. All games focus on physical movements rather than competition. We will use hula hoops and jumping equipment to build endurance, raise heart rate, and develop coordination. Students will use physical activity mats for learning new exercises, circuit training, and enjoyment. We will use yoga mats for yoga and stretching.
We will use various PE equipment during recess and lunch as well. When we do have conflicts between children, it always occurs during recess and lunch breaks when there is less supervision and limited activities. Students will have a choice of games to play which in turn will keep them busy and prevent conflicts. Less class time will be taken in resolving conflicts that occur out on the blacktop.
By the donation of PE equipment to my classroom, students will become more physically active.
They will improve their coordination and increase their abilities to move and play. It will strengthen and elongate their muscles and improve their cardiovascular system. This can help improve their health and prevent obesity. It will eliminate problems that occur during recess and lunch. Student will learn how to play and cooperate in a group setting.
More than half of students from low‑income households
