Too many children today aren't getting the exercise they need. Back when many of us were in elementary school, we had to share what little sports equipment we had with one another. While we all wished for our own football or baseball, we still managed to get the exercise we needed weahter at home or at school. In those days, we also did not have 24 hour television, internet and video games. Unfortunately this problem plagues today's childern. Many of my young students do not get the exercise they need. Along with a good nutrition unit, I hope to get these children fit and exercising regularly. I teach all subjects including physical education (PE) to third grade students at an elementary school with about 600 students. The equipment I am requesting is not just for my class but for the school as whole. In fact, the other teachers' and I have already devised a system to ensure that equipment remains in good condition for many years. I hope to get equipment for each unit I teach which will be Hula Hoops for dance, volleyballs for volleyball, and basketballs for basketball. I will begin by kicking off each exercise unit with a set of skill building activities/games. I plan to pair the students into groups of two. Each pair of students will have the entire PE period to practice the skills of each sport. By starting off at their level, I plan on building their confidence and ability in each unit. Because there will be plenty of equipment, the children will be exercising throughout the full PE time each and every time, rather than standing around and waiting for equipment to become available. By the end of each Physical Education unit, the students will be skilled and playing different sports all while getting their much-needed exercise. Thank you for considering my proposal.
