This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

School has evolved over the years. If you think back to when you were in school and how you learned how to do various math lessons, I'm sure it didn't include using items such as blocks!

I teach first graders who are very eager to learn.

Our campus is a Title I campus. This means we service a lot of economically disadvantage kids. We are a very large school and have a lot of great things to offer our students. These kiddos have a great dreams and we want to help them to reach them!

My Project

We teach math everyday! However, the actual skill may vary. In order to keep students engaged in the learning and for them to retain and learn the information, we use LOTS of manipulatives. We don't always have enough of the cubes, counters, etc., so students sometimes have to work with partners. It is great for students to work together at times because they actually teach each other! Yet, we need to have enough manipulatives so students can work individually when needed. Also, we need new pencil sharpeners! We use them daily and they never seem to last more than a year. Students need to be able to sharpen their pencils in order to do their work. In first grade, we use pencils for everything so they can make corrections. Pens are not an option. We also do various activities where students need to use glue. This is the one item we can never get enough of! We also use iPods to help enhance literacy. We need a charging system to help keep them charged and ready for use.

Our class would greatly benefit from all of the items on our "wish list".

The students would be so excited to have new things. Not only would you be helping my class, but others as well. Me and my co-workers are great about sharing our classroom supplies to help reach all students and not just our own. Your generosity would be greatly appreciated by a large number of students!
