Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year is an exciting one for us here at our elementary school because we are beginning our second year as a new innovative elementary school.

I am currently the teacher in a Special Education Classroom.

Many of my students have conditions such as ADD, ADHD, and other learning disabilities. My students require frequent brain breaks or movement opportunities to stay focused. I strongly believe in allowing kids to explore and be highly engaged during their learning experience.

Having a mixed population at our campus, we have students from upper-income, lower-income, foster families, military families, English and Spanish speaking families, too. We lack funding to provide necessary equipment in order to be more innovative in our classrooms. As we begin our second year, we would love to provide students of all abilities, the opportunity to participate in engaging activities that incorporate technology while learning and create a positive environment for all.

My Project

According to Edutopia, since flexible seating has been implemented in public school classrooms, they have noticed an improvement in students’ grades, their students seem happier and more engaged, and their students are participating more and having more invigorating conversations.

With flexible seating in my classroom, my students will feel empowered by having a choice and control over their environment and how they learn .

Flexible seating benefits my students’ physical and mental health as it allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, move, lean, or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and build core strength. As a result, this helps keep young minds more alert and focused. Flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to learn, focus and be productive.

Flexible seating is helping to build 21st century learners and they are gradually becoming the future of all classrooms nationwide, and I’d like to start my future today. Please consider helping my classroom!
