This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I teach gifted second graders who are just learning how to organize their work and materials. We keep our finished paperwork together in folder portfolios, but we need a way to identify what objectives we are learning, keep the same type of activities together, and add new work throughout the school year. Papers fall out of folders and nothing is organized. At this young age, students need to learn how to be responsible for their belongings, and having a portfolio to take care of throughout the year allows them to learn responsibility.
These binders will be a great resource to show parents during conferences what their children have worked on in my gifted class and for students to reflect on after lessons and units.
The students and parents can see how they have progressed with their thinking skills and organizational skills, and what they have learned in second grade. These binders will go home with my students at the end of the school year, so parents have them as a keepsakes.
