Help me give my students a storage center, chair pockets, and glove dispenser for the routine, structure, and organization to make them successful. Organized storage for our work jobs will increase independence, as the students locate their assigned jobs.

My Students
My students are smart, determined, and amazing learners! My students range in age from Kindergarten through sixth grade. They all have a variety of learning challenges, but they don’t let that stop them from trying. Despite their challenges, my students have huge smiles and even bigger hearts! They all have disabilities that require them to be a part of a smaller, self-contained classroom.
My students thrive on routine and structure.
COVID has disrupted their routines and structure, in many ways. One way that we help them maintain this structure within the classroom, is by giving each one an individualized visual schedule for the day. These schedules are in a binder and contain pictures representing each part of the day. Because of COVID, each child has an assigned chair. They carry their schedules with their chairs as they rotate from activity to activity.
In our classroom, we work on basic academics, but in a functional way. One important part of our day is working on job skills. We do this with a variety of assembly-type jobs stored in the classroom.
My Project
I would like to give each of my students a chair pocket for their visual schedules. It becomes cumbersome and frustrating for my students to try and manage their schedules, pencil boxes, and communication devices. When my students get frustrated, it can lead to behavioral difficulties. Disruptive behavior impedes learning for both that student and the rest of the class.
Organization is an easy way to decrease frustration.
By giving my students the tools to help them stay organized, they will be more successful with their activities. The hope is that they will learn to apply these skills to other situations in their lives.
A storage shelf for our work jobs will decrease clutter and increase independence. The students will be able to locate their assigned job more easily. The goal is for these beginning job skills to help my students gain meaningful employment in the future. Amid COVID, I am still trying to help my students become functional members of society. Creating an organized and structured classroom helps maintain some normalcy. They also need a glove dispenser.
