My Students
Reading is a struggle for my students but many have told me that reading is their favorite thing to do. Many also voice their frustrations with reading because they do not have the basic skills necessary to read at grade level, which is getting harder as the enter middle school.
When they step into my classroom, I try to instill that love of reading while giving them those necessary skills needed to succeed.
My classroom has become a safe community where learners are free to ask questions and encouraged to make mistakes. When we correct a mistake, we know we have really learned something. We have so many great discussions about new vocabulary and connections we make to the text we read.
My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Many students speak English as a second language. I also serve many students who are on IEP's as well as students who don't qualify for special education services but are in need of extra assistance. We work together in small groups, practice reading independently, and work on specialized software that meets each students unique needs in order to fill their learning gaps and move them towards proficiency.
My Project
Organization can make or break a class period. There are times when students lose practice time because they are searching for their materials. These trays will help my students stay organized so they can get started on their work right away. We use our headphones each day when we work on software. I want each student to have their own set of earbuds to store in their basket. This will help keep germs from spreading and it will free up time and resources so we don't have to disinfect headphones between classes.
