I am a special needs teacher in a low income, inner-city school district. My classroom consists of 12 amazing middle school-aged students, all diagnosed with a moderate disability, such as Autism, Intellectual disabilities, and Neurological disabilities. Their eagerness and enthusiasm towards learning is not only contagious, but inspiring as well. Despite the difficulties they endure on a daily basis, they still come to school every day, ready and excited to learn. My students inspire and motivate me, not only to be a better teacher, but to become a better person as well.
My Project
Being a special needs teacher is honestly one of my proudest accomplishments in life. I love being able to watch my students make unimaginable growth and progress over the course of just 180 days. I try to put a great deal of focus in my teaching on true life skills that I think my kids might need in their futures. This year, one of my many objectives for the school year is to help my students develop the skills needed to stay independently organized. In order to be able to do this, I am asking for both 8 pocket and 2 pocket plastic folders needed to organize some of their materials. We are also hoping to replace our daily schedule. Our current one does not have enough space for all of our daily activities.
I have to admit, I consider myself one of the lucky ones to have found a career that I am truly passionate about.
Every day, I am given the chance to make an impact on someone’s life. By donating to our classroom, you are helping me to hopefully make that impact a positive one. Thank you so much for your consideration!
