My Students

Our school serves 400 K-5th grade students in an incredibly diverse, but high-poverty community in the West End. A significant portion of our students are English Language Learners. I am proud to teach music at a school with such caring staff and inspiring kids!

My Project

We know that students learn best when they are DOING. Rather than teaching musical form and expression through explanation and sitting, I want my students to interact with the music physically, mentally, and emotionally. The scarf hoops and stretchy band in this project are unique tools that are sure to be well-loved. We can use these to show the beat, overall form, and expressive qualities of music such as dynamics and tempo.

Students crave novel experiences and respond well to the use of manipulatives.

These are big ticket items that are challenging to purchase in a typical school year. Your donations will help provide my students with more opportunities for hands-on aesthetic music education. Your donations will help promote healthy movement in the music classroom. An increase in movement in the classroom improves cognitive, physical and emotional development!
